Fernandes is Anglo American's chief operating officer and, since the 2025 executive streamlining, has had the Africa and Australia regional portfolio folded into his remit, with Kumba Iron Ore and the Chilean, Peruvian and Brazilian businesses reporting to him. He has been named chief operating officer of the future Anglo Teck, with the regional chief executives, including Kumba's, reporting to him.
