Wanblad has run Anglo American since 2022, the culmination of a career that began at the group's associate JCI in 1990 and included a short spell as joint interim chief executive of Anglo American Platinum in 2007 and a stint as group director of strategy and business development. He has overseen the break-up of the old Anglo, including the Valterra Platinum demerger, and in July 2026 was confirmed as the future chief executive of Anglo Teck once the merger with Teck Resources closes, with Chinese antitrust clearance the last outstanding approval.
