Cook took charge of De Beers in February 2023, arriving from Equinor after some 20 years at BP, where he rose to chief of staff to the chief executive. A Cambridge-trained geologist, he has steered the diamond producer through a deep slump in rough prices and Anglo American's drawn-out effort to sell it, including the July 2026 decision to pause production at Venetia. Anglo has said he is expected to leave once the De Beers sale or listing is completed.
