Caledonia Mining Secures Up to $150 Million for Zimbabwe's Bilboes Gold Project

Caledonia Mining Corporation has signed financing agreements worth up to US$150 million with a consortium of Zimbabwean financial institutions to support construction of its Bilboes gold project.

Announced on 5 November 2026, the financing comprises two credit facilities: one of up to US$50 million and a term loan capped at US$100 million. The agreement gives the company additional funding options as it works towards starting gold production at Bilboes in October 2028.

The new facilities form part of a broader funding strategy for the project, which Caledonia estimates will require US$484 million in total development costs.

New credit facilities strengthen project funding

The latest agreement builds on financing Caledonia secured earlier in 2026. In January, the company completed a US$150 million convertible bond issuance to support its development plans.

Before that, in December 2025, Caledonia introduced a gold price hedging programme designed to protect part of the revenue generated by its existing Blanket mine against a decline in gold prices. The arrangement aimed to provide more predictable cash flows that could contribute towards Bilboes' development.

Together, these measures are intended to give Caledonia greater financial flexibility as it advances the project. However, the newly arranged credit facilities remain subject to conditions before the company can access the funds.

Bilboes targets 200,000 ounces in first full production year

Caledonia expects Bilboes to produce approximately 1.55 million ounces of gold over an estimated mine life of 10.8 years.

The company is targeting first gold production in October 2028, with output expected to reach approximately 200,000 ounces during the first full year of operations in 2029.

The project is expected to increase Caledonia's overall gold production and add to Zimbabwe's mining output. Gold remains one of the country's important export commodities.

Further financing still required

Caledonia must meet additional requirements before drawing funds from the new facilities. These include establishing further gold price hedging arrangements before its first withdrawal under the US$50 million credit facility.

The company is also continuing discussions with regional and international financial institutions to secure longer-term project financing. It considers this funding an important final component of its Bilboes financing strategy.

With estimated development costs of US$484 million, the US$150 million agreement provides a substantial funding commitment, but Caledonia still needs to complete the wider financing package to advance construction. Read about More like This HERE
